Former UNC standout Tyler Zeller agreed Wednesday to sign with the San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season, which is set to resume with 22 teams at the Disney campus in Orlando next month.
Zeller has not played in the league since the 2018-19 season, where he saw action in just six total games during stints with the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies. The 7-footer was signed largely because San Antonio will be without the services of star big man LaMarcus Aldridge, who underwent shoulder surgery during the spring.
The 17th overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft coming out of UNC, Zeller has averaged 7.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game across his seven seasons in the league. In that time, he has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks in addition to last seasons stints with the Hawks and Grizzlies.
