Claudia Dickey will officially be playing at the professional level. The former goalkeeper for the UNC women’s soccer team was selected by the OL Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League in the second round of its draft Saturday.

Dickey is the 20th Tar Heel to be drafted by the NWSL, and the fourth to be selected by the Reign. She is also the first Carolina goalkeeper to be drafted by the league.

Dickey’s time at Carolina featured the goalkeeper playing in three College Cups and two national title games. She made 55 starts for the Tar Heels, including 47 straight to finish her career. She recorded 28 career shutouts, including 15 in the 2020-21 season, which led the nation.

During her final two seasons with the Tar Heels, Dickey played every single minute of every match, which comes to 3,511 minutes (approximately 58.5 hours) in total. She made 58 saves during those two seasons, and finished her Carolina career with 149 saves, the second-best mark in school history. She was named a first team All-ACC performer as a junior, and was named to the third team in 2021.

Dickey will be the second UNC alumna on the Reign’s roster, as former Tar Heel Amber Brooks is in her third year with the team.
