The beautiful game is coming back to Kenan Stadium.

English soccer champions Manchester City and Scottish side Celtic FC will play an exhibition match in Chapel Hill on July 23, 2024 as part of the FC Series. It’s the second straight summer Kenan Stadium will host the FC Series, after Chelsea and Wrexham played there in 2023.

“We are thrilled to welcome international soccer fans back to Chapel Hill this summer for this fantastic event,” said UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham. “The atmosphere for last year’s game in Kenan Stadium was outstanding, and we can’t wait to share our beautiful campus and Carolina community with even more visitors from around the world.”

Manchester City are one of the most successful clubs in the world, having won the English Premier League, the English FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup all within the last year. July’s match will be the first ever visit to Chapel Hill for the club, which is also making preseason stops in New York, Pittsburgh and Orlando as part of its 2024-25 preseason tour.

Celtic FC competes in the Scottish Premiership, the top league in Scottish soccer. It won the league title for the 53rd time in its history in the 2022-23 season.

“We are fortunate at Celtic to have such a global reach and we hope as many supporters as possible can attend the match in North Carolina,” said Celtic defender and U.S. Men’s National Team standout Cameron Carter-Vickers. “We will be doing our very best to put on a great show for the fans.”

Proceeds from the match will benefit UNC Children’s Hospital. Additional information, including kickoff time and broadcasts, will be announced at a later date.
