The UNC women’s soccer team defeated No. 2 seed Texas Tech in a true road environment in the NCAA Tournament round of 16 on Sunday. With the 1-0 win, Carolina advances to its second consecutive national quarterfinal appearance.

Bella Sember found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to break the scoreless tie. It was just the third goal of the season for the junior and the fifth of her Carolina career. It was one of seven shots on goal on the afternoon for the Tar Heels, compared to zero for the Red Raiders. In UNC’s two matches in Lubbock over the weekend, goalkeeper Emmie Allen didn’t have to make a single save while keeping two clean sheets.

Ally Sentnor earned the assist on Sember’s goal. Sentnor continued her strong form on Sunday, recording a team-high three shots (two on goal) after scoring the game-winner on Friday against Alabama. The only negative for Sentnor? Her run of four straight matches with a goal was snapped.

No. 3 seed Carolina will stay on the road in the next round of the tournament, as the Tar Heels will travel even further out west to visit No. 1 seed BYU in Provo, UT. It’ll be the second consecutive season UNC will play a quarterfinal match on the road. The match against the Cougars is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
