As the current iteration of head coach Roy Williams’ Tar Heels continues to battle their way through the NCAA Tournament, some future UNC stars have been making some noise as well.

Class of 2018 commit Coby White (Greenfield School in Wilson, NC) was named North Carolina’s Gatorade Player of the Year on Monday.

The 6-foot-5 guard led his team to a 23-11 record and an appearance in the 1A state semifinals, while averaging an incredible 31.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

White currently ranks No. 33 in ESPN’s recruiting rankings for high school juniors.

He was not the only UNC commit to win a Gatorade Player of the Year award, however, as guard Jalek Felton (Gray Collegiate Academy in West Columbia, SC) took home the honor for the state of South Carolina.

Felton–the nephew of former UNC great Raymond Felton–is part of the Tar Heels’ class of 2017, and is expected to be an important contributor next season.

ESPN has him at No. 24 among its senior class rankings.
