The college basketball transfer portal opened March 24, and several Tar Heels have entered their names in. Here’s a list of which players have expressed their intention to leave Chapel Hill this offseason:
F Ven-Allen Lubin

Lubin announced his entry into the portal April 21, but with a catch: the big man said his “full intent” is to return to UNC, and his entry into the portal is merely to avoid any complications from the forthcoming House v. NCAA settlement. If Lubin does end up leaving Chapel Hill for a different school, he will have one year of eligibility remaining. He has entered the portal after each season of his collegiate career.
SF Cade Tyson

Despite coming to Chapel Hill on the heels of two outstanding seasons at Belmont, Tyson never found his rhythm as a Tar Heel. After shooting 46.5 percent on three-pointers as a sophomore, Tyson’s metrics cratered to 29.2 percent as a junior. His minutes dwindled along with his shooting: he played more than 10 minutes in a game just twice after the new year. In six games, he didn’t play at all. Now, Tyson will enter the portal with one year of eligibility remaining.
SG Ian Jackson

One of the highest-rated recruits to come to Chapel Hill, Jackson arrived as a heralded five-star prospect out of the Bronx. But his up-and-down season mirrored the team’s as a whole: he scored 21.2 points per game during an eight-game stretch in December and January, but then averaged just 8.2 points per game over the next six games. For the season, Jackson averaged 11.9 points per game. He was named to the ACC’s All-Freshman Team. Jackson will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
The morning of April 21, it was reported Jackson had committed to St. John’s in his hometown of New York.
PG Elliot Cadeau

A former five-star recruit, Cadeau reclassified up a year to join the Tar Heels when he should’ve been a senior in high school. In two seasons in Chapel Hill, Cadeau started 68 of a possible 74 games while averaging 8.3 points and 5.1 assists per game.
On Monday, March 31, less than a week after entering the portal, Cadeau announced his commitment to Michigan. He will have two years of eligibility with the Wolverines.
F Jalen Washington

Washington’s career at UNC was sadly marked by injuries – the former five-star recruit missed the entirety of his senior season of high school basketball due to a major knee injury. Washington then missed the beginning of his freshman season in Chapel Hill and never found his footing: after serving as Armando Bacot’s primary backup, Washington found himself on the bench again as a junior after Ven-Allen Lubin won the starting forward role.
On April 4, Washington committed to Vanderbilt. He will have one year of eligibility with the Commodores.
