Hannah George made history at Anderson Stadium Tuesday night, throwing the UNC softball program’s first no-hitter in nine years in a 2-0 win over UNC-Wilmington.

A scoring change secured George her first career no-no, as a Seahawk hit in the top of the sixth inning ended up being ruled as an error on Carolina. Regardless of the ruling, George was dominant in the effort, striking out seven and walking just two over the full seven innings. A two-run home run from Taylor Greene in the bottom of the first ended up being all the run support George needed on the evening.

George is now 9-0 this season for Carolina, after having thrown the 54th no-hitter in school history. It’s the first no-hitter by a Tar Heel since Lori Spingola’s against North Dakota State in 2013. George and the Tar Heels were also the first team to hold UNC-Wilmington scoreless this season.

With the win, Carolina improved to 15-10 on the season, while dealing the Seahawks just their fourth loss. The Tar Heels will go for their fourth consecutive win Wednesday afternoon when they visit Liberty.
