As the No. 1 UNC women’s lacrosse team prepares to put its undefeated season on the line at the Final Four in Baltimore this weekend, five of its players were named All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse on Monday. Jamie Ortega, Ally Mastroianni, Emma Trenchard, Emily Nalls and Taylor Moreno each earned the honors.

Ortega, Mastroianni and Trenchard were each named to the first team, Nalls was named to the second team and Moreno to the third team.

Ortega led the Tar Heels in both goals (64) and points (105) in 2022, while also becoming the ACC’s all-time points leader. She was the only Tar Heel to take more than 100 shots. Ortega was also an assist machine this season, placing second on the team with 41 assists.

Mastroianni served as head coach Jenny Levy’s opening draw ace this season, leading Carolina with 126 draw controls in 2022. No other teammate had more than 54. Mastroianni also had the best offensive season of her career, posting career-highs in goals (43) and assists (nine).

Trenchard, Nalls and Moreno serve as anchors on a stingy Tar Heel defense which has only given up 16 goals in its last three games combined. Moreno set the UNC program record this year for consecutive starts in goal, which currently sits at 74 and counting. With Moreno in net, Carolina was the only team in the ACC to give up fewer than 200 goals this season.

The Tar Heels will take on No. 4 Northwestern in the Final Four on Friday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
