Six UNC women’s soccer players earned spots on All-ACC teams, headlined by defender Trinity Armstrong and forward Kate Faasse on the first team.

Both Armstrong and Faasse are making their first appearances on the All-ACC teams. A true freshman from Frisco, TX, Armstrong was also named to the ACC’s All-Freshman team, becoming the first Tar Heel to earn first team All-ACC and All-Freshman nods in the same season since Alessia Russo in 2017. She is one of just two freshmen on this season’s All-ACC first team and the only freshman defender to earn a nod on any of the three All-ACC teams.

Playing on a stout UNC back line, Armstrong helped the Tar Heels limit opponents to just 6.5 shots and 2.7 shots on goal per game in the 13 games she played (Armstrong missed Carolina’s most recent six games due to playing for Team USA at the FIFA U17 World Cup, where the Americans finished third). Armstrong earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 24.

Faasse, a junior from Phoenix, leads the Tar Heels with 14 goals and 29 points, including eight goals in the team’s last 10 games. Six of her 14 goals have been game-winners, which ranks first in the ACC and third nationwide. She has scored two goals in a game three times this season, making her just the third Tar Heel ever with three or more braces in a season in the last decade.

Elsewhere on the All-ACC teams, Maddie Dahlien and Tessa Dellarose earned third team honors while Bella Gaetino and Linda Ullmark joined Armstrong on the All-Freshman team. Carolina’s seven total honors rank second in the ACC.

Dahlien has scored one goal and dished out four assists this season. She missed nine games due to playing for Team USA at the FIFA U20 World Cup, where the Americans placed third. Dellarose leads all Carolina non-goalies with 1,662 minutes played and has started every match in midfield, scoring three goals and four assists. Both Dahlien and Dellarose were also named to the All-Freshman team in 2022.

Gaetino, who along with Armstrong are UNC’s only two freshmen defenders, has played in all 19 of Carolina’s games and started 17. She has three goals and an assist on the season. Ullmark leads the team in assists with five and has also scored two goals. She earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 1 with two goals and an assist against Virginia, making her the only Tar Heel to total five points in a single game this season. She’s the third UNC true freshman to do so since 2018.

The Tar Heels will be back in action when they take on top-ranked Duke in the ACC semifinals in Cary on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
