A student at UNC is being tested for a probable case of the mumps, according to the university.

Officials say the “dates the student may have been infectious were April 23 through April 30.”

The student lives off-campus, according to a release and the general risk of the on-campus population contracting mumps from the individual is being categorized as “low.”

Mumps typically causes fever, muscle aches, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, headache and swollen, tender salivary glands under an infected individual’s ears.

Most of those infected have a full recovery.
