****UPDATE: UNC Police said just after 4:45 Wednesday afternoon that the subject of the search had been located.****
UNC Police are asking for assistance locating an individual who walked away from Butner Mental Health Hospital officials who were escorting the man to a medical appointment shortly before three o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
Police say he was last seen off western Manning Drive near Brauer Hall.
Officials describe the individual as a 26-year-old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build. Police say he has short-cropped brown hair.
The individual was last seen wearing a grey, long-sleeve sweatshirt, white sneakers and baggy jeans.
Officials say the missing person “is not thought to be armed or considered an immediate safety threat.”
Anyone who sees this individual or has information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact UNC Police by calling 911.
