This upcoming fall, 70 new Morehead-Cain scholars will be welcomed to UNC from across North Carolina, the United States and abroad — and six of the students accepted are coming from close to home.

The Morehead-Cain Foundation – founded in 1945 as the first merit scholarship program in the United States and founded at the country’s first public university, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – has announced it’s 2024 class of students, including three from Durham County, two from Orange County high schools and one from Chatham County.

From Durham County — Benjamin Samuel Klein of Durham Academy in Durham, Christopher Gantt Holliday of Charles E. Jordan Senior High School in Durham and Asher Howard Wexler of Research Triangle High School in Research Triangle Park.
