A death at the Carolina Inn property Friday morning is under investigation by the UNC Police Department.
A university spokesperson confirmed to Chapelboro that a deceased individual was reported at the historical hotel, restaurant and event space at 211 Pittsboro Street, which is the edge of UNC campus. Investigators have confirmed the individual is not affiliated with the university. UNC Police secured the area for further study and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public’s safety.
As of Friday afternoon, the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being made available to the public.
The Carolina Inn — which is part of the National Register of Historic Places — and its property are owned by the university, having been built in 1924 and gifted to UNC in 1935. The hotel business and Crossroads restaurant are managed by Hyatt.
