Carrboro drivers can expect periodic lane closures and traffic changes on Jones Ferry Road on Wednesday due to water line resiliency improvements.

The town government shared a release saying Orange Water and Sewer Authority construction crews will work in the roadway between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on September 29.

People in the area can expect noise, dust and mud from the construction, according to Carrboro. Traffic, including bike lanes, will be slowed with lane closures outside of the Water Treatment Park. A full road closure is not expected at this time.

OWASA and Carrboro are alerting residents that water services may be interrupted during construction for up to eight hours and impacted customers will be notified ahead of outages in the area.

The construction is part of the continued Jones Ferry Road Water Line Resiliency Improvements Project. The project works to improve drinking water distributional treatment facilities. Improvements to the Water Treatment Plant include working on the finished water pump system and installing a new bulk chemical storage containment area.

Work is expected to last into the fall of 2021.
