Motorists should watch for road work along eastbound Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro during the day on Wednesday.

Contractors with the town government will be installing a protected bike lane, which will run from NC-54 to Barnes Street.

A release from the town says the work is expected to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11. Officials are asking drivers to use caution while in the area.

Jones Ferry Road isn’t the only street in the area that’s getting upgrades for bicyclists this month. In Chapel Hill, new bike lanes are being added to Culbreth Road as part of a resurfacing project that’s ongoing through August. An even larger project is about to get underway later in the month: the Estes Drive Connectivity Project, which will add raised bike lanes as well as a new sidewalk and a multiuse path along Estes Drive east of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The Town of Carrboro says Wednesday’s work on Jones Ferry Road is weather permitting. If it rains, town officials say the work will be done either Thursday, August 12, or the following Wednesday, August 18.
