Current Orange County Commissioner Renée Price is the Democratic nomination to represent Orange and Caswell Counties in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

“It is a wonderful day,” Price told Chapelboro after gaining the Democratic nomination.

Price said a lot of the issues from her primary campaign will carry over into her general election campaign this fall.

“We attack them in a different way,” Price said. “Schools is really, really important. Schools was the big issue.”

Price also listed healthcare reform, affordable housing and economic development.

“We still have to deal with the Roe v. Wade issue,” Price said. “If that comes to the states, I’ll be right there to defend it.”

Price, who is the chair of the county board and is a first-time state government candidate, earned 72 percent of the vote with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. Her opponent, Hillsborough town commissioner Matt Hughes, trailed with 28 percent.

One Republican was running unopposed in this primary cycle: Charles Lopez, who Price will face in the general election in November.

The district’s seat opened up with Rep. Graig Meyer announcing his run for state Senate, which he earned the Democratic nomination for on Tuesday night.
