****UPDATE: Power has been restored to the main outage that caused downtown Pittsboro to lose power Friday.****

A widespread power outage appears to be affecting all of downtown Pittsboro on Friday.

Duke Energy is reporting, as of noon, that there are 2,156 customers without power in Pittsboro. The outage was first reported around 11:40 a.m. Friday, according to the utility.

Chatham County officials said the outage is impacting local businesses, government offices and street lights through downtown Pittsboro. Motorists are urged to take extra caution if traveling through the area.

Duke Energy is estimating the outage will be restored around 1:15 p.m. Friday.
