**UPDATE** Authorities said that Jacob Rudd, 18, of Morrisville was killed in the accident.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving an SUV Sunday afternoon in downtown Chapel Hill.

Police said Sunday evening that emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of West Franklin and Mallette streets just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The crash forced Franklin Street to be closed between Church and Kenan streets for about three and a half hours, according to law enforcement.

Police did not immediately release additional information, including the identity of the deceased individual. Authorities are investigating the crash.
