The Town of Chapel Hill has started the process of removing 10 trees from two locations due to “their health and the harm they pose to people and property near them.”
The work started this week with two willow oak trees being removed from North Street near its intersection with Hillsborough Street.
Crews will then move to Chase Avenue and remove eight large pine trees, according to the town. That work is expected to be carried out July 8 – July 12.

Mayor Pam Hemminger and members of the Parks and Recreation Department staff held the inaugural Chapel Hill Community Tree Committee meeting on Tuesday night.
“This new volunteer committee is being formed to help engage the entire Chapel Hill community in increasing and protecting the tree canopy in our town.”
