As Chapel Hill is alerting residents that approximately 15 acres are scheduled to be clear cut, Carrboro is dealing with similar circumstances.

A release from the Town of Carrboro said that P.H. Craig is planning to clear “about 40 acres of timber near Bolin Creek in 2018.”

The operation will be subject to state regulations. But since it is in the town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, officials said, it is not required to comply with the town’s more stringent standards. Although, there have been discussions about “requesting compliance with the Town’s stream buffer standards.”

According to the release, state officials have told Carrboro staff that the cutting will take place away from Bolin Creek.

There will be 50-foot buffers observed during the clear cutting, according to the town.

A portion of Craig’s property also falls within the Chapel Hill town limits. Craig has said that he intends to replant Loblolly Pines on the property.
