UPDATE: A spokesperson for Chapel Hill Police confirmed to Chapelboro on Friday the shooting is not being treated as a random act.


The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a shooting off of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Thursday night, which injured one person.

According to a brief release issued on Thursday, police officers responded around 10:22 p.m. to 1860 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the address for an Exxon gas station within the Chapel Hill North shopping center. Police said one person, suffering non-life-threatening injuries, was transported from the scene to UNC Hospitals for treatment.

Police shared few public details, but said investigators are “working to identify a suspect” and no additional information was going to be made available as of 11:20 p.m. on Thursday.
