Early morning gunfire near the Chapel Hill and Durham town lines led to a police investigation on Monday, authorities said.

A release from the Chapel Hill Police Department said it received a report at 6:10 a.m. of gunshots at 1748 Fordham Boulevard — which is the address of a McDonald’s franchise on a service road near a busy corridor.

According to Chapel Hill Police, an initial investigation indicates the gunfire came from people in two vehicles shooting at each other. No injuries were reported by the time officers arrived on scene. Investigators are working to identify the suspects, the release said, and no other information is publicly available as of Monday morning.

The incident marks the second recent gunfire investigation where Chapel Hill Police have alerted the broader community. Police received reports of gunshots in the Timber Hollow apartment community early Saturday morning, with damage also reported to one of the buildings. Monday’s release about gunshots did not indicate the McDonald’s franchise suffered any damage.

Chapel Hill Police are asking anyone with information about the gunfire at 1748 Fordham Boulevard to call 911 or contact the police department directly (919-968-2760). Those who wish to provide anonymous tips can also call the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC CrimeStoppers hotline at 919-942-7515 or submit a message to the CrimeStoppers website.
