Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will be livestreaming this year’s senior graduation ceremonies to accommodate social distancing efforts. Each high school will offer a different take on a socially-distanced graduation.
This Saturday, June 6, Phoenix Academy High will hold its ceremony at 10 a.m. The other three high schools will conduct theirs on Saturday, June 13.
One graduation ceremony will be completely drive through, with attendees remaining in their vehicle during the ceremony, while other ceremonies will allow students to walk across the stage.
Additionally, most of the ceremonies will be exclusively held outdoors.
Other important information to note includes guest restrictions. Chapel Hill High will only allow up to four guests per graduate.

Phoenix Academy High
Date: Saturday, June 6 (rain make-up Monday, June 8)
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Location: Lincoln Center parking lot and/or yard
What to expect:
A drive-in graduation, meaning most attendees will remain in their vehicle during the ceremony. We will have a speaker system as well to ensure everyone can easily hear us. In addition, we hope to have the entire ceremony broadcasted on an AM radio station during the ceremony. This should reach about a mile perimeter from Lincoln Center. People will be able to hear the entire program on their car radio with their windows up and the A/C on. Since we only have 12 students graduating, we may (depending on a future discussion) be able to space them out in front of the field while maintaining acceptable social distancing.
Carrboro High
Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 2-6 p.m. (Tassel turning live streamed at 7 p.m. or 30 min after last graduate leaves parking lot)
Location: Carrboro High School gym and its hallways, as well the Cafe Commons
What to expect:
Graduates and up to five guests will walk across a stage in the CHS gymnasium to receive their diplomas, complete with photos taken by a professional photographer. Each senior walking across the stage to receive their diploma will be live streamed through a free link that will be shared soon. Thirty minutes after the last graduate has left, the tassel turning will be live streamed by Principal Rudolph and the CHS staff.
Chapel Hill High
Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: West Parking Lot and A-Building
What to expect:
Graduates and guests will have a final opportunity to walk the halls of the old A-Building before it is demolished this summer. Graduates and up to four guests will proceed down one of the upstairs hallways of A-Building. Once they reach the upstairs A-Building lobby, their names will be called and they will walk across the lobby to pick up their diploma off of a table. The graduates will then move to an area to have their picture taken by a professional photographer. The graduates and guests will recess down the other upstairs hallway and return to their cars.
East Chapel Hill High
Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Outdoor – across from football stadium
What to expect:
Students and guests drive around and students get out of the car before the stage. When they get to the stage, their names will be called using a sound system. They will cross the stage, taking their diplomas off a table. When the student walks off the stage, there will be a professional photographer to take pictures.
