East Chapel Hill High, Chapel Hill High and Carrboro High finished as the top three traditional high schools in North Carolina on the U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 Best High Schools ranking, receiving gold medals.

“I’m proud of our students and our team of educators,” Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools superintendent Pam Baldwin said in a release. “They are committed to ensuring every child has an excellent school experience. It is a privilege to work with them as we pursue this goal together. ”

In North Carolina, 582 schools were eligible for evaluation and 17 of the schools received a gold medal. Woods Charter School, located in northern Chatham County, was the third-ranked high school in the state. In the overall North Carolina rankings, East Chapel Hill was sixth, Chapel Hill ninth and Carrboro number 13.

The rankings evaluate more than 20,500 public high schools nationally to assess a number of factors, including enrollment, graduation rates, diversity, participation in free and reduced-price lunch programs, the results of state assessments and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate test data.
