Chapel Hill – Carrboro City School officials said Tuesday that schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the expected impact of Hurricane Florence. The Category 4 storm continues to approach North Carolina and is expected to make landfall Friday morning, but it’s effects could be felt well before it reaches the coast.
CHCCS also is canceling all weekend activities across the district.
UNC – Chapel Hill had already announced that classes would be canceled beginning Tuesday night and the university was encouraging students to leave campus.
Orange County announced Tuesday that it would be opening two shelters on Wednesday, one at Smith Middle School in the Chapel Hill – Carrboro City School District and one at CW Stanford Middle School in the Orange County Schools district.
OCS officials announced just after 4:15 p.m. Tuesday that Orange County Schools would also be closed Thursday and Friday.
St. Thomas More Catholic School in Chapel Hill is closing Thursday and Friday this week.
Chatham County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Durham Public Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.
