The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be replacing the bridge carrying Hawkins Road Bridge over South Fork Little River between Wilkerson Road and N.C. 86 just North of Hillsborough.

Work will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28. The new bridge should be open by August.

According to the department, the existing bridge is functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it.

Motorists will navigate around the work using an offsite detour using Olin Road and Caviness Jordan Road.
