The Town of Hillsborough saw no water quality violations following its annual report on wastewater treatment.

The town recently released its Fiscal Year 2020 Wastewater Quality Report, which covered from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. According to it, there were no violations with water quality among the 393 million gallons of wastewater during that period.

Hillsborough Mayor Jenn Weaver spoke with 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck about the report, saying it was great news.

“Our wastewater treatment facility actually has some of the cleanest effluent in the whole nation, so it’s something we take a lot of pride in,” she said.

Weaver said the town’s proximity and use of water from the Eno River helps guide the focus on making treatment a rigorous process.

“Being up close to the headwaters of the Eno River,” the mayor said, “we take that responsibility very serious because we have to keep things clean for our downstream neighbors and for the intrinsic value of the Eno.”

In addition to its detailing of water quality, the annual report also includes details on how residents can protect their homes and the environment by properly disposing of fats, oils and grease. It also details how Hillsborough’s wastewater collection and treatment systems work. The town also recently made a video showing its treatment process.

The Fiscal Year 2020 Wastewater Quality Report is available in English and Spanish on the Wastewater Treatment Plant page of the Town of Hillsborough website.
