Hillsborough park gates, dog parks and restrooms have reopened under Phase 2 of North Carolina’s reopening guidelines.
The town announced the news on Thursday, encouraging residents to keep six feet of distance when visiting park facilities.
Playgrounds will remain closed at this time. Additionally, restrooms will be sanitized once daily.
Hillsborough joins Chapel Hill and Carrboro in reopening its outdoor parks and trails to residents. All three towns are encouraging social distancing and keeping playgrounds closed. Public recreation spaces are not available for rental use by groups or individuals as well.
Phase 2 of North Carolina’s reopening began on Friday, with businesses like restaurants and barbershops allowed to serve customers indoors.
“The responsibility to reopen our community in a smart manner is on all of us as individuals,” Orange County Commissioner Penny Rich said. “This disease is still affecting people in Orange County, and we know the virus does not care about county lines. Even as we open, people should be wearing face coverings, staying 6 feet apart from others, and continuing to wash their hands frequently – these are keys to our success moving forward.”
