Two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at a PruittHealth – Carolina Point, a long-term care facility, which sits on the Durham-Orange County line on Mt. Sinai Road.

The two cases involve a health care worker who is currently isolated at home and a resident who is hospitalized at Duke Hospital. The health care worker is in satisfactory condition.

The Orange County Health Department is working with PruittHealth to provide care for ill patients while protecting uninfected patients.

“We have been in daily communications with the facility since it became concerned about a resident with respiratory symptoms over two weeks ago,” Orange County Health Director Quintana Stewart said. “Together, we have been monitoring symptomatic residents and testing suspected close contacts as needed.”

As of April 2, Orange County has 37 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. The first confirmed cases within Orange County were reported on March 20.

North Carolinians with questions or concerns about the ongoing coronavirus outbreak can call the COVID-19 phone line toll-free at 866-462-3821.

The Department of Health and Human Services, as well as the CDC, encourages North Carolinians to take the same measures health care providers recommend to prevent the spread of the flu and other viruses. Those practices include frequently washing your hands, avoiding touching your face, staying home if you are sick and covering coughs and sneezes with your elbow.
