The Town of Chapel Hill will once again celebrate Independence Day with its annual fireworks celebration at Southern Community Park on Tuesday, July 4. The park will open for the event at 7 p.m., with fireworks expected to begin at approximately 9:20 p.m.
“This is truly an all-hands-on-deck event and I’m proud to see how our team works together,” said interim town manager Chris Blue. “Fire, Police, Transit, Parks and Recreation, Community Arts & Culture, and many other departments help make this a safe and successful evening.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics to the show. Tents, tailgates, pets, alcohol and glass are not allowed. The town recommends viewing from the Southern Community Park ball fields and around the Southern Village Green. Some areas of the ballfields will be off-limits due to maintenance.
All motorists must enter the event via the Market Street entrance to Southern Village. Limited parking will be available on a first come, first served basis at Southern Community Park, the Southern Village Park & Ride Lot and around the Southern Village neighborhood beginning at 7 p.m. Accessible parking is available in the lot closest to the Southern Community Park Pavilion. Parking along Highway 15-501 is not allowed.
Chapel Hill Transit will operate a free shuttle service from the Jackson Deck on the UNC campus. Service will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 8:15 p.m. No shuttles will run during the show. After the fireworks have ended, the shuttles will run until 10:30 p.m.
Town staff will monitor weather forecasts for Tuesday, July 4 and will communicate any delays or cancellations.
