Chapel Hill Transit indefinitely closed one of its bus stops on Columbia Street Monday due to the beginning of construction on UNC campus.

The department announced on Friday the Carrington Hall bus stop on South Columbia Street would close beginning Monday as construction on the new Medical Education Building begins. In the release, Chapel Hill Transit advised all users of the stop to transition to Health Sciences Library bus stop further down the street during the closure.

The construction of the eight-story tall Medical Education Building will replace Berryhill Hall on campus, which is currently used for medical education and labs. Built in 1970, the hall will be replaced by an updated building and an updated walkway from South Columbia Street to the building.

The Medical Education Building project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.
