The Town of Chapel Hill has released the 11-step process of recruiting and selecting a new town manager.
The process includes suggested dates for each step, with the final selection date left to be determined.
Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger spoke on WCHL’s the Aaron Keck Show about the process and how long they expect it to take.
“[Developmental Associates] said they could do it, start to finish, in a couple months period, like three months,” said Hemminger. “I think it’ll be more like six months. I know our community, we like to really vet things out, but our goal is to have somebody in place by the end of June.”
Current town manager Roger Stancil, who announced late last year his intention to retire, has agreed to stay on and help with the transition period.
Hemminger says that being a university town in close proximity to other towns, partnerships are an important part of the town manager position.
“We’re very fortunate that Roger is willing to take whoever the new manager is and help make and establish those connections,” said Hemminger.
The entire overview of the 11-step process is available on the Town of Chapel Hill’s website.
The Town Council is scheduled to discuss moving forward with the recruitment process for a new town manager at Wednesday night’s meeting at 7 o’clock at Chapel Hill Town Hall.

The less Roger Stencil influences the new manager the better it will be. He has been a disaster, and his influence on the staff and town has been a net negative. The less involvement on his part the better. He should have been put out a long time ago.
