The largest fundraising campaign in the Durham Technical Community College’s history ended this week and its final total exceeded the college’s goals.
Tuesday marked the end of the “Forge Great Futures” campaign, launched by Durham Tech three years ago. A release from the college said the campaign exceeded its $5 million funding goal to support talent development for the workforce and economic opportunity for students.
“Through outstanding support of the Forge Great Futures campaign,” said Melissa Chappell, Executive Director of the Durham Tech Foundation, “our community has demonstrated its belief in the ability of Durham Tech to change lives and strengthen our region.”
The campaign officially began on July 1, 2017, with a public phase launched in April 2019. Since then, Durham Tech garnered commitments from both private donors and community partners, like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Bank of America and Duke Energy. Some of the future projects as a result of the funding will be a mobile health lab to support underserved communities, a makerspace for student innovation and affordable housing opportunities for the local community.
“I am grateful for the generous support from the hundreds of individuals and organizations who have donated to the Forge Great Futures campaign,” said Durham Tech President Bill Ingram in a release. “Their contributions to Durham Tech are in fact an investment in the future of our communities in Durham and Orange counties.”
