Chapel Hill Police arrested two men suspected in an armed robbery at the Glen Lennox Family Fare BP gas station on Raleigh Road Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday to a report that a masked male, wearing dark clothing, entered the convenience store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk was left unharmed, police said, and the suspects exited the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

An officer then spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description exiting the nearby woods and getting into a waiting truck. The suspect then appeared to be changing clothes, according to law enforcement.

The vehicle was pulled over in the northbound lanes of Fordham Boulevard just before Estes Drive Tuesday afternoon and a heavy police presence caused major traffic delays.

Authorities said the currency stolen from the BP, two weapons and the other clothing were recovered from the vehicle and the two suspects were arrested without further incident.

Police said in a release Tuesday night that 28-year-old Joshua Allen Chavis, of Raleigh, and 27-year-old Sean Thomas Klinek, of Apex, were arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Both suspects are being held under a $250,000 secured bond.
