Chapel Hill Police are asking for public assistance identifying and locating a suspect allegedly involved with armed robberies at two local businesses Monday.

Police say the armed robberies occurred between 8:30 and nine o’clock Monday night.

Police were first dispatched to 405 West Rosemary Street – the location of La Nueva Guadalupana – at 8:37, before a second dispatch of officers to the Sheraton Hotel on Europa Drive just before nine o’clock.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, dressed in a black shirt and either black or khaki pants with a small green towel covering his head. Police say the suspect displayed “a compact black handgun” during each robbery before fleeing by getting into the passenger side of a small, light-colored sedan.

The suspect was able to take an undisclosed amount of cash from the Sheraton Hotel, but nothing was taken from La Nueva Guadalupana.

If anyone has information regarding the two incidents, you are asked to call Chapel Hill Police at (919) 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous and callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
