A Pittsboro man has been arrested on charges of alleged sexual contact with a minor.

Authorities said 40-year-old Sean Evan Bancroft has been charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, felony statutory sexual offense involving a child under the age of 15 and two counts of sexual battery.

The investigation began one year ago when the minor “disclosed the alleged sexual contact to a family member before reaching out to law enforcement in December 2017.”

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office conducted a forensic interview and further investigation before bringing the charges, according to a release.

Bancroft was give a $250,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in January.
