After a string of thefts in northern Orange County last week, investigators had to go off the beaten path to track down the culprit who allegedly stole several all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes.

A release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday shared that investigators with their department and the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Danville Police Department in arresting 28-year-old Avery Clay Parker on Tuesday. Parker, who was found in Danville, Virginia, reportedly has ties to Orange County but deputies have yet to determine his permanent address.

Parker faces four counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, with additional charges expected to be filed based on the discovery of a Glock pistol modified to be an automatic weapon.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office shared last week three different residents in the Cedar Grove and Efland communities reported their four-wheeler vehicles, or ATVs, as stolen the night of March 1. Three ATVs and one dirt bike were taken. While investigators initially said they were unsure of a connection in the thefts, the case shifted into a high gear when the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office reached out with a theft of their own.

“I am so grateful to have such excellent relationships with other law enforcement partners,” said Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood in Wednesday’s release. “Deputies with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office provided us a good lead in this case. Working with them and members of the Danville Police Department, we recovered two of the four-wheelers stolen in Orange County last week. These relationships are force multipliers, and my team and I appreciate being able to address crime and safety issues efficiently through these collaborative efforts.”

Additionally, authorities recovered one ATV and one dirt bike stolen from Alamance County.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Parker is awaiting extradition from Virginia. Investigators are still available to contact for those who may have additional information regarding the recent thefts. Investigator Kyle Borland can be reached at 919-245-2915 and Investigator Jason Nazworth can be reached at 919-245-2960.
