The No. 15 UNC baseball team took its second road loss of the season Tuesday night, and its second in shutout fashion, falling to No. 14 Liberty 1-0. The team is now 11-2 on the season, but 0-2 on the road.

The Diamond Heels outhit the Flames 9-4, but could not scratch any runs across for nine innings. The frustrating evening included freshman star Vance Honeycutt being caught stealing for the first time this season and nine runners being left on base. It ended in fitting fashion, as Carolina put the tying and go-ahead runs on base with one out in the top of the ninth, but struck out twice to end the game.

Sophomore catcher Tomas Frick continued his hot start at the plate by going 2-4, but left three men on base on the night, the most of any Carolina hitter. Angel Zarate also ended the night with two hits to extend his on-base streak to 36 games, going back to the 2021 season.

Connor Bovair took the tough-luck loss, surrendering the only run of the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the first. He would allow three hits in two innings of work, but the trio of Shaddon Peavyhouse, Shawn Rapp and Kyle Mott combined to give up just one hit and two walks in the next six frames. Carolina pitchers struck out 14 Flames in total.

UNC was scheduled to return to Boshamer Stadium to play Georgetown Wednesday evening, but that game has been postponed due to inclement weather in the Chapel Hill area. A make-up date has not yet been announced.

Carolina’s next action will be a weekend series against Pittsburgh at Boshamer Stadium to open ACC play. The Diamond Heels and Panthers are scheduled to begin play Friday evening at 4 p.m.
