An Orange County man has been charged with second-degree murder after an 18-year-old died from an apparent opioid overdose.

Authorities said Nathan Windham was arrested Tuesday and was charged with second-degree murder, selling or delivering heroin and selling or delivering a counterfeit controlled substance.

The charges are connected to a November 13 incident where “police responded to a medical call” at the Ardmore Cates Creek apartment complex in Hillsborough.

These charges are part of “an extensive investigation” by Hillsborough Police, the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner’s Office and the victim’s family, according to a release.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Sergeant Charles White with Hillsborough Police by email or at (919) 296-9532.

Windham is being held under a $600,000 secured bond.
