Orange County authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with a 2017 breaking and entering.
A suspect allegedly broke into and “ransacked” a home on Caviness Jordan Road in Cedar Grove in July 2017. Evidence recovered from the scene was processed and sent to the state crime lab, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office. That evidence returned a profile match in the Combined DNA Index System known as CODIS.
“Earlier this week, we got a CODIS hit, meaning that a profile match occurred between the Forensic and Offender Indexes, providing us with the identity of a suspected perpetrator of the breaking and entering case investigated in July,” Evidence Technician Investigator Corey Jones said in a release.
That profile of the suspect from the scene allegedly matched Garland Edward Morehead, of Durham. Orange County authorities have now obtained warrants for Morehead’s arrest.
He is wanted on charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of larceny of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and injury to real property.
Anyone with information regarding this ongoing investigation or who knows the whereabouts of Morehead is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2900.
