A 12-month-old child died in Orange County on Friday afternoon after being found in a hot car outside a manufacturing facility in Mebane.
A release from the Mebane Police Department on Friday said officers responded to a cardiac arrest call at 12:23 p.m. at the Armacell plant off of Oakwood Street Extension. Upon arrival, the police found an “unresponsive” infant was being given CPR, with no successful attempts to resuscitate the child.
Mebane Police said they gathered information at the scene of Armacell, which included the father of the 12-month-old being an employee at the company. Friday’s release said the man had left the child in the vehicle, although it said investigators are still determining how long the child was left outside.
Temperatures in Orange County rose to nearly 90 degrees, with much of the area getting direct sunlight from the partly cloudy sky.
As of Friday evening, the police department said it would not be releasing the identity of the child or father. No charges have been filed, according to the release.
Because the incident took place in the Orange County area of Mebane, police said they will be in touch with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office about the case. Friday’s release said the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities say anyone who may have information regarding Friday’s incident at Armacell is encouraged to contact the Mebane Police Department at 919-563-9031. Community members can also use the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 336-229-7100.
