The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help as an investigation into a recent theft of air conditioning units heats up.

A release from the office on Thursday shared photos of a vehicle used during a larceny of two HVAC units from the Cedar Grove Ruritan Club. The units were set to be installed on the property at 6116 Efland Cedar Grove Road before being stolen early Monday morning. According to the release, the stolen HVAC units are Goodman branded commercial units.

The sheriff’s office said surveillance photos and video from the night show an older model pickup truck arriving and departing the property. Two individuals were seen in the truck, which has a standard cab with tinted windows. Authorities say the vehicle, likely a Ford, has an inoperable headlight on its passenger side.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood is offering a $1,500 cash reward for anyone who has information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for taking the HVAC units.

“The historic Ruritan building has served as the lifeblood of the Cedar Grove community for many years, in many ways,” Blackwood said in the release. “Not only is this a criminal offense harming the Ruritans, it is also slap in the face to the people who value this facility and what it means to this community.”

Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s pick-up truck or the theft is encouraged to get in touch with Investigator Jason Nazworth. He can be called at 919-245-2960 or emailed at jnazworth@orangecountync.gov.
