
The Orange County Health Department announced its new hours of operation for drive-thru and walk-in COVID-19 testing in Hillsborough and Chapel Hill. The updated hours went into effect at the beginning of August.
The health department continues to scale back its offerings as at-home COVID-19 tests become more and more available. Instead of being offered every weekday at two different locations in the county, there will now be just one location open per day and will alternate between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough.
Hillsborough’s drive-thru testing will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 113 Mayo Street. Chapel Hill’s walk-in testing at the Southern Human Services Center will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The SHSC is located at 2501 Homestead Road. Registration for the Hillsborough location is available here, and the registration for Chapel Hill location here.
Orange County also said it is now partnering with Mako Medical to conduct COVID-19 testing — a change from earlier in the pandemic when StarMed and Optum Serve were the primary companies handling local tests.The tests at each location are PCR tests, and are available and free to those with or without insurance. Additionally, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is offering registration for organizations who wish to become a Community Access Point for COVID-19 testing. NCDHHS is establishing Community Access Points in all 100 counties statewide. To find all test locations in North Carolina, click here.
