CHAPEL HILL – Last week, theChapel Hill Police Department released new information in their investigation of the murder of Faith Hedgepeth last September. With the new information, the police department also created a new email address for tips.
Police already had a tip line for people to call with additional information, but Sgt. Josh Mecimore says the email address will be helpful as well.
“Sometimes people don’t feel comfortable talking to somebody,” Sgt. Mecimore says. “They don’t want somebody asking them questions; they just want to say what they’ve got to say, and that’s it. So we thought that was a good way to give people place to do that. I’m sure we’ll probably keep that email long term so that if people have information they want to pass on, they can shoot us an email and say what they have to say.”
Mecimore says police did not receive very many additional tips after last week’s release, but information is still coming in. Using recently discovered DNA evidence and aid from federal agencies, Chapel Hill police announced last week that the suspect is a male—likely someone who knew Faith, whose whereabouts are unaccounted for on the morning of Friday, September 7, and who might have been acting strangely immediately thereafter.
If you have any information, call the tip line at 919-614-6363 or Crimestoppers at 919-942-7515, or you can email the tip in to crimetips@townofchapelhill.org. All calls will remain anonymous. There’s a $39,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
