The food bank in Chapel Hill, which has been experiencing increased demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is moving locations.

Ahead of its July 1 distribution, the Town of Chapel Hill announced the food bank will now be held at the Eubanks Road Park-and-Ride Lot. Distribution is held every Wednesday and is open to all Orange County community members in need of food assistance. The events are held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is a drive-thru method, where staff instruct motorists where to park and food gets delivered to the trunks of vehicles.

Food bank distribution in Chapel Hill had previously been held in the lower parking lot of the Chapel Hill Public Library for weeks when the pandemic began. Previously, distribution was held at designated sites in affordable housing neighborhoods.

The town shared directions to the park-and-ride lot from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Motorists should turn onto Eubanks Road and drive 0.6 miles past the Carraway Village Apartments complex. The Eubanks Road Park-and-Ride Lot will then be on the right.

The weekly food bank is a partnership between the Town of Chapel Hill Public Housing Department, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the hunger relief organization PORCH.
