Segments of Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill are scheduled to see lane closures from Tuesday through Friday and drivers can expect minor delays.

Duke Energy and AT&T are installing utilities this week in the next step in preparation of the Carraway Village project near the I-40 interchange with NC 86. The mixed-use development continues construction as contractors aim to open residential spaces in the fall.

Dwight Bassett, who is Chapel Hill’s Economic Development Director, spoke with WCHL’s Aaron Keck last week about the project’s features.

“It’s 900,000 total square feet,” Bassett said. “Half of that is multi-family space, half of that is commercial. Comparatively, you think of Southern Village and Meadowmont. Then you have the 60 acres on the backside of Carraway which could be research, light industrial or [other] facilities.”

Bassett said the goal is to make Carraway Village a “live-work-play” area for residents, providing most of their immediate needs within the development. He said the project will announce early stage commercial tenants within the next two months and talked about his pleasure in seeing the construction’s progress.

“We took on as an economic development project back in 2011,” said Bassett. “We worked with our staff and the public to create some general principles of what the general development should look like. Here we are seven years later with the construction out of the ground. It’s exciting to see because you can now look at [Carraway Village] and say ‘that’s good for the community.’”
