IotaComm, Inc., a wireless communications and data services company, will be relocating its corporate headquarters to the top floor of the office space at 200 West Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill.
“We’re thrilled IotaComm is calling Chapel Hill home,” said David Putnam, the town’s economic development director. “Once again, Chapel Hill stands out among competitive regional and national candidates as an ideal home base, offering instant access to top talent and research.”
At the moment, IotaComm is headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. According to IotaComm’s website, the company had maintained an office in Chapel Hill in the Junction building at 136 East Rosemary Street before this recent move. Its website also describes much of its work as being focused on indoor air quality.
“By establishing our headquarters in Chapel Hill, we’re aligning our growth trajectory with a world-class talent pool, a thriving innovation ecosystem, and a community that shares our values around sustainability, technology and education,” said IotaComm CEO Terrence DeFranco, who previously worked with the Innovate Carolina program at UNC before joining the company.
A spokesperson for IotaComm said the company’s workforce is currently 13 employees — but the plan is to nearly double that in the next year, and double that total again within two years.
The building at 200 West Franklin Street was most recently occupied by Google Fiber offices and previously housed businesses like Aveda and Michael Jordan’s restaurant “23” on its ground floor, which remains vacant. It has been seeking new tenants for several years.
