Hillsborough mayor Jenn Weaver was re-elected as two incumbent candidates claimed their spots on the town’s board of commissioners Tuesday night.

In the Town of Hillsborough’s board of commissioners race, incumbents Robb English and Kathleen Ferguson ran against new challenger Anna Linvill. Ultimately, English and Ferguson claimed the town’s two open seats with 40 and 43 percent of the vote respectively.

Incumbent board member Robb English was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2019. Upon winning the commissioner seat Tuesday, this will be his first full term.

Hillsborough Mayor Jenn Weaver ran unopposed for her mayoral seat this election year and successfully secured a second term.

“It just feels good to have people getting out to the polls,” Weaver said, “and I’m happy to see what happens tomorrow as we move forward.”

This is the second time Weaver has ran unopposed for the position. In 2019, the former commissioner replaced long-time mayor Tom Stevens, who decided not to run for re-election after 14 years in office.

“Running unopposed is nice for me, but its not great for democracy,” Weaver said. “I do think our elections are better when we have robust discussions about ideas. I do feel like this is a transformative time where we’re all really looking to the future for how we can be best poised to be thriving and equitable communities.”
