With four seats available and only one incumbent, the race for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board led to many changes to its makeup after Tuesday’s election.

Incumbent Rani Dasi kept her seat, earning the most votes of any candidate with 23.6 percent.

Former Carrboro Elementary School principal Jillian La Serna won 22.8 percent of votes, making her the most popular challenger candidate and earning her a seat.

Candidates Deon Temne and Ashton Powell received 17.4 percent and 13.6 percent of the votes, respectively, earning them the remaining seats.

Former board member Andrew Davidson, who ran for election after previously serving on the board, finished fifth and received 11.9 percent of the votes.

Three board members chose not to run for re-election. James Barrett and Pat Heinrich chose not to seek re-election. Margaret Samuels, who served as the chair, stepped down earlier in 2019.
