As his Tar Heels continue to make waves throughout the college football landscape, so too does head coach Larry Fedora and his frantic, up-tempo offense that gives nightmares to opposing defenses.

The most recent landmark for the UNC football program was its thrilling 37-35 win over No. 12 Florida State last week in Tallahassee.

Not only did that game earn Player of the Week honors for receiver Ryan Switzer and kicker Nick Weiler, Fedora himself was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week on Tuesday.

The Dodd Coach of the Week Award recognizes the football coach whose program embodies the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity–while also having success on the playing field during the previous week.

Fedora has played a large role in UNC’s rise to becoming one of the top programs in the ACC. His innovative approach to the sport has helped the team win games and set him apart individually.

He has also taken an active role in the Chapel Hill community since taking over as head coach prior to the 2012 season. On top of hosting a golf tournament that raises money for the Volunteers for Youth organization, Fedora has hosted events for the Fisher DeBerry Foundation and the Federation of Christian Athletes.

“Any time your team can go on the road and snap a 22-game home winning streak, it certainly qualifies as an impressive feat of coaching and Coach Fedora did just that this weekend,” said Jim Terry, Chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation.

“Coach Fedora continues his success both on and off the field during his tenure at North Carolina and is a deserving honoree for this week’s award.”

Following the team’s 11-3 season in 2015, Fedora was also named the FCA National Coach of the Year.

Since the Tar Heels’ incredible upset over the Seminoles, they’ve catapulted from outside the polls all the way to No. 17 ahead of this week’s home contest with No. 25 Virginia Tech.
